Maja Ćirić is an independent curator. Her theory and practice, based on terms of criticality and post-globalism, are challenging the dominant curatorial geopolitics. Her areas of research are: a) curating as an institutional critique; b) the methodology and epistemology of curating; c) the transnational circulation of ideas and curating; d) new artists and artistic practices. She is a recipient of Lazar Trifunović Award for Art Criticism (Belgrade), CEC ArtsLink Independent Projects Award (New York), ISCP Curator Award (New York), Dedalus Foundation and Independent Curators International Curatorial Research Award (New York).

 

She received her Ph.D. in art and media theory from the University of Arts in Belgrade, Serbia (Dissertation title: Institutional Critique and Curating). She gave lectures about curating and the curatorial in well-established Universities such as China Academy of Art, Hangzhou, China; Academy of Visual Arts, Leipzig, Germany; Kibbutzim College, Tel Aviv, Israel and in self-organized schools such as New Collection, Belgrade, Serbia.
