Maria Rosa Sossai
Maria Rosa Sossai, based in Rome, is a researcher in the field of artistic practices and educational policies. In 2012 she founded ALAgroup, (Free Academy of the Arts), www.alagroup.org, an independent platform for education and contemporary art which continued the research started in 2008 with esterno22, www.esterno22.com a non profit association for contemporary art and education. ALAgroup conceives the artistic practice as a process of shared knowledge. Among its group’s recent projects, a series of workshops and exhibitions of Italian and international artists at FAI – Villa e Collezione Panza, Varese. From December 2013 to April 2015 she has been artistic director of AlbumArte, space | projects for contemporary art in Rome. She also curated projects as well as exhibitions in commercial galleries, art foundations and museums both in Italy and abroad such MAN museum in Nuoro, Real Academia de España, the American Academy, Fondazione Pastificio Cerere, Polish Institute of Rome, Nomas Foundation, Italian Institute of Culture in Istanbul and in Seoul, the Tel Aviv Museum, SongEun ArtSpace in Seoul and, with Laura Cherubini, the touring exhibition of an exhibition by the Italian artist Carla Accardi in Toruń, Budapest, Thessaloniki and Athens.
She is a contributor to Flash Art, Arte e Critica, Artribune and Shifter. Her publications include: Arte video, Storie e culture del video d’artista in Italia (video art, history and culture of video art in Italy, 2002), Film d’artista, Percorsi e confronti tra arte e cinema (artists’ films, writings on art and cinema, 2009), both published by Silvana Editoriale, Milan. Her book How to Live Together, Art as Educational Training, is to be published in November 2016 by the Publishing House Le Torri del Vento.
